The bamboo chasen whisk is an essential and ideal tool for preparing a rich, frothy matcha the traditional way. Artfully crafted, the chasen is an integral tool in the Chanoyu, or Japanese tea ceremony. Hand carved from a single piece of bamboo, this chasen has 80 bristles which is the typical number for an everyday whisk that produces a good level of frothiness.
Move the whisk in a rapid back and forth motion for about 15 seconds until the matcha becomes frothy. Use light pressure on the bottom of the whisk, barely touching the surface of the bowl to avoid damaging any bristles. Rinse immediately with hot water after each use and air dry. We recommend drying and storing your chasen on a ceramic whisk stand. A chasen can last a long time with good care.
