This Organic Hojicha is made from the stems of first harvest sencha and has been lightly roasted resulting in an exceptionally sweet Hojicha. It is produced by Mr. Toshiro, a pioneer in organic and sustainable tea farming in Japan with over 35 years of experience. Grown in the pristine Yame mountains of Kyushu Island in southern Japan and cultivated with the utmost care, his tea fields are grown pesticide-free, chemical-free and harm-free in healthy soils that are rich in biodiverse micro-organisms, vitamins and minerals.
Hojicha is a Japanese green tea that undergoes a roasting process by roasting various types of green tea (sencha, gyokuro, kukicha, shiraore) in large porcelain pots over charcoal fire. Typically, Hojicha is composed of stems and not leaves. The result is a variety of sweet, roasted flavors and golden amber colors. Hojicha has all the health benefits of green tea yet is lower in caffeine due to being roasted.
